Our core data commitments
- We do not train AI models on your data. We never use the books or other material you upload, or the music and images we generate for you, to train, develop, fine-tune, or improve any artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models — ours or any third party's.
- Zero data retention wherever the provider allows it. Text analysis runs through a provider configured for zero data retention, and your music is generated on our own self-hosted models — so those inputs are not stored by an outside model vendor or used to train their models. Ambient image generation uses a third-party service that may briefly retain inputs under its own terms; we send it only generalized, AI-written scene descriptions — never your book text or personal data.
- We do not keep derivative works from your Content. Apart from delivering your generated music and images to you and storing them in your own account so you can access them, we do not retain or repurpose derivative works created from your uploads. When you delete your Content or your account, the associated material is removed.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your uploaded content for advertising.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information: such as your email address and, if you set one, a username. This is used to create and secure your account.
- Content you provide: the electronic books (e.g., EPUB files), text, optional reference audio, and other materials you upload ("Submissions"), and the music tracks and ambient images generated for you ("Output").
- Usage and diagnostic data: aggregated, de-identified information about how the Service is used (e.g., features used, errors, performance), which helps us keep the Service working.
- Device and technical data: such as device type, operating-system version, and app version, used for compatibility and security.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including processing your Submissions to generate and deliver your Output;
- create and secure your account and authenticate your access;
- respond to your support requests and communicate with you about the Service;
- monitor, debug, and improve the reliability and security of the Service using aggregated, de-identified usage data; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use your Submissions or Output to train AI models, and we do not use your personal information for third-party advertising.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers: trusted vendors that help us operate the Service — such as cloud hosting and storage providers, authentication providers, and the AI processors described below — process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations, and only as needed to provide the Service.
- Legal and safety: we may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to enforce our Terms, protect the rights, property, or safety of Bardium, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: if Bardium, or substantially all of its assets, is acquired or transferred to another owner, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
AI processing providers
To generate your Output, we rely on the following AI processors, each handled differently for your privacy:
- Text and language analysis: routed through OpenRouter under its zero-data-retention policy, so your inputs are not stored or used to train models.
- Music generation: produced by our own models running on our cloud GPU infrastructure (Modal), so your inputs are not handed to a third-party model vendor and are not used to train any models.
- Ambient image generation: produced by a third-party image model (Flux, via Replicate), which may process and temporarily retain inputs in accordance with its own policies — we cannot guarantee zero data retention for this provider. The data we send for image generation consists only of generalized, AI-written scene descriptions (architecture, landscape, atmosphere), never your uploaded book text or personal information, and we do not use it to train any models.
Data storage, security, and retention
Your account information and the Content you save are stored with our cloud hosting and storage providers so that you can access your library. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, though no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Content sent to AI-model providers to generate your Output is processed transiently for that purpose and is not retained by them beyond what is needed to return your Output. We retain your account information and saved Content for as long as your account is active. When you delete specific Content or your account, the associated material is deleted, except for residual copies retained only briefly in routine backups or as required by law.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update your account information in the app, delete Content you have created, and request deletion of your account by contacting us at [email protected]. We will respond to verified requests as required by applicable law (including the GDPR and CCPA where they apply). You will not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take steps to delete it.
International data transfers
Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than the one in which you live, including by our service providers. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we take steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection in accordance with applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and notify you through the Service or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
